Is counseling for me?

Counseling in a safe, supportive atmosphere allows a unique opportunity for individuals to explore their presenting concerns and underlying issues. It may be helpful to schedule a consultation to further discuss your needs if you find yourself wondering about counseling. Some indicators that counseling services may be beneficial include:

  • Behavior changes

  • Emotional reactivity

  • Traumatic event or loss

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Appetite disturbance

  • Relationship problems

What is a Licensed Professional Counselor?

A professional who holds their Masters degree in the field of counseling AND is licensed in the state in which they practice. Professional counselors can work with an array of mental health concerns. Working with a licensed professional counselor can lead to diagnosis, treatment of symptoms and underlying stressors, along with maintenance of progress.

How long will I need counseling?

The length of treatment varies with each person and presenting concern. The beginning of treatment typically includes a standard appointment time. As treatment and progress continues, the frequency of appointments can decrease to bi-weekly, once every three weeks, or monthly as you work on maintaining the changes you seek.

How much will this cost?

At this time, KP Counseling is not taking insurances, however it is our goal to not allow finances be a barrier for seeking help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to inquire into our rates for services. Send us a message on our contact page to ask any questions you may have!

How do I schedule an appointment?

All appointments can be scheduled via the secure Client Portal at the top of this website. This link is a direct, secure way to schedule all appointments on the calendar. If you are interested in beginning, please click on “I am a new client” and choose a day and time for a 15-minute telephone consultation or intake evaluation. Or, if you aren’t sure you want to become a client, but would like to set up a time to ask questions, please send us a message by completing the form on the “Contact” page and we will be in touch.

What if I’m in crisis?

A crisis situation may be: suicide feelings and intentions, threat or incident of violence, intense verbal conflicts, or other urgent situations in which you aren’t sure what to do. You may attempt to call us in a crisis situation; however, we may not always be available. You may call 911 in a police or life-threatening emergency. If you are experiencing a suicidal, mental health, and/or substance use crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) which provides free and confidential support. You are also encouraged to visit our Resources page and use any of the resources you feel best meet your needs.

What if I need to cancel?

If you find that you need to cancel an upcoming appointment, please leave a message at least 4 hours prior to your appointment time. We understand that life happens, so if an emergency occurs, please let us know as soon as you can and every effort will be made to reschedule your appointment within the same week. Any appointments not rescheduled within the same week, or cancelled without a 4-hour notice may be subjected to being charged the session’s full fee.
